Arcadia – Time Line of history from 1961 – 1970

1961 –St Benedict’s Monastery settled in Arcadia in May 1961


1963 – Sydney water was connected to the school 14th June 1963. On 11th November 1964 it was certified.


1966 – Decimal currency was introduced to the classroom.


1967 – The brick classroom was built in in 1967 as the school grew to 100 pupils.


1969 – Galston Swimming Pool opened.

1969 – The Mothers Auxiliary was established in June 1969 with Mrs Gwen Jackson being elected first President. Ladies brought a plate of food and a charge of 40 cents was made with the proceeds going to the ‘Piano Account’. Notes show the current price was $365.86 from the government stores. The Auxiliary also organised Tennis Tournaments annually.

1969 – On the 25th October the first Mothers Auxiliary cake and produce stall was held on Election Day. $60.10 was raised.


1970 – A school uniform was selected and introduced in 1971. It was not immediately compulsory The sports uniform came later in 1972.
